First responders from multiple agencies in Northern Maryland and Pennsylvania were called at around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday morning to a brush and woods fire in the area of Baldhill Lane and Silver Lane in Darlington after being alerted to flames by a utility worker in the area.

According to officials, the initial call came from a Delmarva Power technician, who found the flames spreading across the hillside near the Susquehanna River that was started by a downed power line on property owned by Exelon.

In total, the brush fire spread across more than four acres, and was "driven by dry conditions and early morning winds."

"The Maryland Forest Service and local fire departments have successfully contained the fire, and there is no threat to nearby structures or risk of further spread," officials said.

Crews remained in the area on Saturday afternoon working to manage hot spots with the help of a bulldozer that was deployed for overhaul operations.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and later released.

"Dry foliage and drought conditions have been significant factors in today’s incident, along with seasonal winds pushing flames inland," investigators determined. "Fire crews urge residents to remain vigilant and practice caution in these dry conditions."
